Searching for the house they'd dreamed of near Charlotte, N.C., proved to be a challenge for Wray and Sarah Warner. After all, this couple - a professional chef and stable owner, respectively - could not find an existing space that would ideally meet their unique needs and busy, professional lifestyles.

Therefore, the best solution for them was to purchase 20 acres of land on which they could build their own custom dream home and create space for Sarah’s three horses. So, the Warners turned to Schumacher Homes -- a national leader in custom on-your-lot homebuilding, to make their dream a reality. Shortly after selecting their builder, the Warners were selected as the winner of the “Great Green Giveaway,” a promotion Schumacher Homes was running with Ply Gem, giving the couple the opportunity to upgrade their custom home.
The would-be homeowners chose the Craftsman architectural style for the look of their new home – beautifully complementing their personality and daily life. Next, the builder combined energy efficient, low-maintenance Ply Gem products including insulated vinyl siding; polymer shakes and shingles; stone veneer; and aluminum-clad wood windows.
After a day of design review with the architects, some subtle facade changes were made to reinforce the Craftsman style down to the last detail. What's more, an additional bump-out added another opportunity to break up the roofline, while also adding even more appeal to the left side of the home.
The elevation of this home changed dramatically from some very basic changes in materials and a new bump out that pays homage to the home's Craftsman roots.
The finished home blends the timeless charm of a center hall colonial with exterior Craftsman detailing, blended with today’s modern amenities. Since nearly all of the exterior products are from Ply Gem and are low maintenance, the house is ideal for this busy couple – requiring very little upkeep to maintain its fresh appearance.
Without adding significant costs or leadtime, Ply Gem's portfolio of products allowed the Warner's to create their dream home with commercially-available products that enhanced the charm and energy efficiency of their new home.
